  • earwigs on PSB - good or bad?

So the latest inhabitant on my PSB is earwigs (or eariewigs as we called them as children). The aphids and little bugs are long gone, the caterpillars of which I have found at least 4 types are STILL being picked off on a daily basis, but need to now if the latest find is friend or foe to the plants?

    Cheers, janeyo

Earwigs won't harm the plant ... they're just annoying.
Although earwigs can damage plants (esp. dahlia petals), they eat pests, including aphids and codling moths, which attack apple and pear trees.
You often find earwigs in holes in fruit, but they rarely caused the initial damage... they just tuck in after someone else has made the hole.

Thanks, I thought they were carnivorous, but then read something that made me think they might eat the plants. Have had enough trouble with everything else eating them!
There are only one or two on a couple of plants so will leave them alone.
