they don't need chitting.

The main reason for chitting is to get the spud growing before the weather is good enough. Right now, they can go straight in the ground.

btw. Wilkinsons still have seed potatoes, as do B&Q etc.

It's not ideal as they may have been sprayed with a growth inhibitor to slow down chitting- or they may carry fungal spores.
BUT...go for it- just get them planted asap!!!!!

When I planted my potatoes(some left over from last years crop) three weeks ago some had chits some had none all are now showing above ground.

ok will do.. one quick question though, how do i know which way up to plant them, i've just had a look at some of them and they seem to have tiny sprouts at both ends

After having a quick browse, if you want something more specific than supermarket bought, there are still seed potatoes available on various websites, and some are going cheap on end of season sales, though you will have p&p to allow for.

Just plant them. The potato knows which way to grow.

Chop them in half and plant both ends.

Someone here on the Top Tips board mentioned reduced seed potatoes at Homebase...

Apparently reduced from �3.49 to �1 a bag (not sure how many in a kilo bag)

I got mine from another Top Tip suggestion by paying for p&p I got 5 seed spuds, 2x plastic spud growing bags and 5x packets of veg seeds - just costs �3.99 postage

If there is a Homebase near you try them...I saw a large collection of seed potatoes in my local one last night.

Can't recall now......ummmm I think just over a week? Hopefully you will get yours soon

Ordered the free petunia plugs (42) and paid postage - those came y'day. My god! The plugs are small! Plants looking nice and leafy though.... Can see that I have to poke em out and transplant this wkend - I hate that job!
