  • Cucumber Melonie

    Good afternoon all.

Has anyone grown the above variety? How long roughly should they take to germinate? (in an un heated prop on the kitchen windowsill)

I had sown 2 each of both Cucumber Melonie and Cumber Tasty King on the same day and the Tasty Kings both came up within about 7-10 days. Still no sign of the 'Melonie' after 4 weeks (both packets said to sow in Feb).

Do you think i've killed them - i'm not awfully good at growing anything apart from weeds :-)

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the vine HTurley. Don't know about Melonie, but I sowed Tasty King in a heated propagator, must be 3 weeks ago now, and they still haven't appeared!! I have now re-sown some as I am determined to get more cucumbers this year. Good luck with the melonie. Don't give up on them just yet. I have left my original Tasty King to get on with it. I shall probably end up with both lots!!

Just wondering what way you sowed the seed. Did you plant them upright so the whole seed is not buried in the soil.
Cucumber seed has a tendency to rot so maybe if you have any more you might want to try again. 4 weeks seems to be a long time to wait for them to germinate.
      Hope this may help you.

Thanks for the replies :-) I'll try sowing some more. The seeds were planted on their sides but I might have pushed them down a bit too far. I'll try not sowing them so deep this time..... fingers crossed :-)
