  • Courgettes in pots...

    Hi,

I am nore sure is this should have been posted here or on the container thread but I'll give it a go...

I have been given 3 courgette plants and they grow so fast they seem to be a bit big for their pots... I need to move them and I was wondering if I could put the 3 of them in a window box that is about 60cm long. would they be ok or is this definately going to be too small ? in this case what should I use ? (I have a couple of 23cm pots, is this better ?). as this is my 1st attempt with veg I am a bit (a lot?) clueless !

I have also read on other thread that people get flower buckets from morrisons to grow veg... is that the bucket they have to display the flowers or is this in the gardening aisle ? I may be dumb but I did not see any flower bucket for sale...

    thanks in advance

It the flower buckets that the flowers are displayed in, u will have ask for them and ur courgettes should be quite happy in the flower buckets.

I'll try to ask next time I go to morrisons for the buckets...
so I guess from your answer that my window box will be too small...

60cm for all three does sound a bit too small.

If you don't have any luck with the flower buckets I highly recommend the Wickes builders buckets at 95p each.

I've got three courgette plants on the go, one on each bucket, and they are going a storm! Not as big as I would expect them to be if they were in the ground (where they should be spaced 60cm apart) but still healthy looking plants. When the female flowers start to appear (the one's with the mini courgettes behind them) start feeding them with tomato feed once a week.

Had our first courgetter last night and I've got about 8 more at various stages of developement, 2 pretty much ready to be eaten!

          Hi Vikkib,

          thanks for your reply...
I will definitely look for big pots / bucket to replant the courgettes. I'm planing a trip to the garden center tomorrow. I don't want the plants to suffer or die because of lack of space ! ;-)
is it already time to harvest ? mines don't even have flowers yet... there's just about 15cm high...

It's quite early to be able to harvest courgettes, especially as far north as you are. Mine are just starting to flower but I'm quite a bit off actually getting courgettes so don't panic, sounds like you're doing fine.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
