  • Courgette help needed

I'm growing courgettes for the first time they are 'All Green Bush'. The said plants are outside, the problem, if there is one, is the fact that the flowers die and fall off when the courgettes are around 3 inches long. The first courgette just shrivelled and died. What do I do when the flowers fall off, what am I doing wrong they are fed and watered regularly. Thanks for any help

Ha ha, just read that as Al Green Bush!
You are not doing anything wrong, the flowers will wither and die off after a day or two, that's normal.
You may find that the first few courgettes don't get big, I normally just pick them off, they are nice to eat anyway at that size. Your plant (s) will soon produce lots more that grow bigger quickly. Especially as the weather gets warmer.

I predict in about 2 weeks time you will be posting a message asking what can be done with a glut of courgettes.

The first few tend to not not come too much, so don't worry.

Your courgettes are doing fine Chris. The flowers do die and fall off. After that you can cut them and eat them anytime you like. It's just what size do you want tnem.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

                Hi all.

Thanks - that answers my question about the first few courgettes I have which are only about 2" long and the flowers have dropped off

Should I be cutting some of the larger leaves away, as there are lots of new young leaves coming through? Some of the leaves are huge and seem to be covering the flowers.

                Thank you.

You can leave the leaves on, but you may have to search a bit to find courgettes before they turn into marrows when the plant really starts producing
