  • Couple of questions..

    Hi

Right first, i only have a small yard so im growing my veg in containers, i have a small greenhouse which im currently keeping my strawberries in, hardening them before being transplanted outside into pots. Ive sown spring onion and lettuce straight outside in a fairly large container. Its only been 3 days so of course i dont expect to see anything yet, but the soil this morning seems really wet, im not sure if its rained overnight (i didnt think it had) or i possibly over watered them yesterday, but could this prevent them germinating? Should i have a cloche over them?

Also, the other day i was spraying weedkiller on the weeds coming up between the flags in my yard, i sprayed all along the side and i got half way along and thought i recognised the leafs on some of them.. i was right, strawberry plants all along the side of my fencing. They seem to be growing well but will the weedkiller have killed them completely now? As it is only a cheap one and my weeds usually need to be done a few times before it really works, im hoping what i sprayed on them wont have caused too much damage! Guess ill have to wait and see!

    Thanks

    Hi,

What time did you check the tubs this morning? Early morning times you sometimes get dew fall, or if it was misty last night it can seem damp. It shouldn't stop the germination it might help as long as you have good drainage in your pots you should be ok.

Re strawberries, I would be a bit concerned, best case is you have checked their growth, worst case is if it is a systemic (Leaf to root) weedkiller in a few days you'll see the extent of the damage which might be bad..

Ok thanks It was about 8am when i went out to check the tubs and open the greenhouse. Ill just see what happens with them.

As for the strawberries, it would be a shame if i have killed them, it is a systemic weedkiller. but i never knew they was there (not been here long) and i have 4 other plants of my own so it wouldnt matter too much. Im not really sure how long they have been here but my next door neighbour today said the last tenants grew alot of strawberries and they did really well in this yard so thats good to know

      Thanks

      Simone
