Cold snap coming next week, ok to plant?

AFAIK, woody plants can go straight into the soil - they should be dormant at the moment. The advice is that if the ground is too hard to dig, you lay them at an angle then cover their roots with soil until you can plant them properly, which suggests that real planting is fine. Personally I'd be a lot more worried about the strawberries!

I might just pop the strawbs in some toilet roll pots and keep them in the greenhouse for a week then?

i planted a load of strawberries a couple of days before a hard frost, and they are still growing, got them from wilkies and just planted them out.

If you store them in a cool ,frost free place they should be ok until at least next weekend .Just leave the packaging on.
Why not put the Logan berries in a plant pot for now if you are worried?

I've planted out a load of stawberries a couple of days ago which we'd dug up before Xmas and they're looking fine!

I think I'm going to brave it and plant them all out on Sat morning when it's still supposed to be pretty warm. I've just been and had a bit of a poke about in the garden and the beds are still nice and workeable so should be ok.

Everytime it starts to feel like Spring, they start shouting about another cold snap on it's way. I was glad to see that it was still light at 5pm today though

I was looking forward to getting out and digging this weekend , and if it's going to be -4 all next week I didn't want to be damaging plants and wasting time and money. Seems they'll be ok, they're in my unheated greenhouse until Saturday.

Well, they're out and planted. The bed was lovely to work in, so shouldn't be a problem.

The temps supposed to drop tomorrow night I have some fleece put aside in case we need to go out and cover them. I think they'll be ok though

Little update on these...the strawberry plants survived the snow, only to be dug up by foxes looking for worms

They'd ripped 5 of them up to get at the dug earth, and two of the plants were completely stripped of foliage.

Replanted and covered with a chicken wire cover, and there's new growth on all 12 plants

The Loganberry is in and settled, with new leaf growth sprouting
