Is there any difference in these two cucumbers or are they both the same thing?

They're definitely the same thing, think they have a couple of other names too but can't remember at the moment. Very nice they are too, especially if eaten young.

The reason I asked the question was that I've just bought a packet of Chrystal Lemon and the piccie on the front of packet shows a lemon coloured cuke whereas I seem to remember the ones I grew before were a very pale green?

They're a pale green when young but if you leave them to mature (not good raw then but good in stir fries etc) they eventually go a dark yellow. Pretty but not as nice in my opinion although I always miss some and they go over.

I grew them last year but was unimpressed with them really. Think I let them go over before picking. (Don't laugh but there was a mahoosive spider living right near them so I couldn't pick them cos was terrified lol) Even the chooks didn't fancy them, and they were quite spikey too.Comment

I grew Chrystal Lemon cucumbers for the first time this year and I was very impressed with them, full of flavor and plenty of them, my only gripe about them is there skin was a bit tuff and very prickly, but I'd grow them again.Comment

I have seed and plan to grow them in 2010. Thank you for the photo of your crop Ginger, they do look very prickly. How did you cope with the prickles before you ate them, do they rub off or did you need to peel themOriginally posted by ginger ninger View Post

We have bought some of these cuc's seed, a friend grew them this year and my Little One loved them but then he is a big fan and eats cucumber like apples
we often find huge bites off the ones in the fridge.
Never grown them before so help will be appreciated

My 10 year old has a pack of these to grow this coming season, he saw them in a catalogue and requested to grow them in the veg patch he has at the lottie. I have three greenhouses but judging by how well they grew outdoors the last time I grew them, I probably won't take up valuable greenhouse space with them.
The seed were cheap and there appears to be quite a few in the packet so I'll probably sow the lot and supply the other plotholders at the allotments with free Lemon Cucumber plants.

Re the skins and prickly bits, you don't get these as much if you grow them in greenhouses but as said, they rub off easily so not really a problem.
