I will be planting bucket loads in the next few weeks - when the weather gets cold, they will go inside, and keep growing...

I'm sowing all the carrot seed I have left this weekend in a fleece covered raised bed. Last year they grew quite happily so I'm hoping it's the same this year. Can't have enough carrots!

Me too and they actually taste like carrots should when they are home grown. I find carrots from the supermarket tasteless and I'm trying to become carrot self-sufficient! It is also a great pleasure to see my grandchildren pulling up a carrot to eat. It makes their parents livid because they will not eat carrots at home.

I dont get home till the second half of July and I will be sowing the last of my carrots.
Half of them will be sown in the spaces left by my other crops being pulled up, and the other half in pots etc for the greenhouse. Then will see how things go.

how deep would it need to be for carrots?

i have a couple of spare mayo tubs i get from work and they are about 10 inches deep - would that be ok?

Yes Tracey, 10" is deep enough. You can also get carrots like Paris Market that are cylindrical so can be grown in shallower containers. I've got some of these in washing up bowls.
