I would like to know what to feed carrots with and when is the right time to start feeding them

I had mine in pots in multipurpose compost last year, and just added water .... no feed at all -
Mine are in pots too. Never occurred to me to feed them. I do feed my toms and strawbs though.

My carrots are in open ground but I never feed them at all. They don't really like rich ground.
