    bumper strawberries

    last year my strawberries in pots were not successful, so I moved them to a well manured sunny spot in the garden. They are now hanging low with sooo much fruit! Is straw the best protection for them against all hungry critters that may get to them before me.- or can you recommend something else
    I have stopped some runners but will they produce runners after fruitting so I can pot them up?
    Would love some strawberries and cream this year.

    Straw doesn't protect them from critters ... it simply stops the fruit from sitting on dirty mud.

      Sounds like a very nice crop. To answer your question: If you erect a fruit net or cage over the strawberry plants to protect from birds. And organic slug pellets to ward off the slugs.

          Thanks for that, I think I knew straw was to keep them clean, I think i was just hoping it would keep off woodlice, ect. I have some pea netting to keep the birds off.
