  • Blasted weeds!

I'm trying to get our front garden into some sort of shape and plant a few plants/shurbs in the borders, though ever since moving into this house nearly 4 years ago I cannot get rid of this one MASSIVE weed, it is awful!! I've tried round-up and other "weed killers" which say it will never come back but alas it did come back!! I've tried digging all on it up and I honestly thought I had got it all up but alas again I didn't! So now everytime I go out the front it's there mocking me and my attempts to banish it by growing even more... I will take a picture of this horrible thing and post it on here. Has anyone got any weeds which they simply can't get rid of? Be interested to hear success stories on how to get rid of weeds once and for all!

    thank for reading

Without seeing any pics i would take a guess that your weed may be japanese knotweed? I hope not for your sake!

Looks like one of my cabbages!
I had a bit of a horsetail issue at the lotty but constant pulling it up seems to have weakened it to a shadow of it's former scourge!

Awaiting pictures of your problem weed.

If weed killer doesn't work you really need to concentrate on mechanical methods. i.e. orf with its head every time it shows face. Ifyou leave it to grow to the size in your photograph, it will be able to constantly recover and spread.

It's not horseradish is it? That has massive leaves and can regenerate from a tiny piece of root..

Might be worth trying to deprive it of light by covering it with thick cardboard, and then weed control fabric?

Horseradish has leaves that are less blue but it would account for a brassica looking plant with a never ending tap root.

when i had my first lottie, there was a clump of what i first thought was a dock weed,i later found out it was horse radish,CUV pic is said to be something like, not an actual pic, from what i seen of HR is a lot lighter in color and longer leaves, another thought is,if said weed killers not worked sufficiently, thus only disabling the so called weed, when you post another pic, could you also give an indication of size please,i also take it you do mean the cabbage like foliage, and not the surrounding lighter green ground cover,

Thanks for the advice, I should really keep on top of it and hopefully that will cure it, definitely getting some fabric weed control as I have big plans for my border this year

I would cut it down to ground, then dig out as much root as i could, then cover it with weed control fabric or cardboard, then put an old tyre on top of that, then fill up the tyre with compost and grow something in that, then after a year, lift everything off, and hopefully by then whatever it is will have given up the will to live and never return.

The leaves are too waxy for the weedkiller to penetrate. If you still want to use weedkiller, then you're going to have to crush the leaves, then apply it - especially for the likes of round up.

                              I'd dig it out personally.
