Has anyone tried rooting basil cuttings in water?

my indoor basil plant is rapidly going downhill and I read somewhere that cuttings in water will root within a few days. I've had mine sat in water for nearly 2 weeks and no sign of a root.

Has anyone else successfully tried this? Or any better tips?

Would I be better sticking them in some compost?

Was it a clean cut? Have you been changing the water daily?
I would start again and put in fresh damp compost.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

you maybe need to take basal cuttings to propagate Basil?? . Seriously though, I'd just buy a fresh pot from the supermarket especially at this time of year when light levels and temperatures are lower

It is easy. I took the heads off the main stems and stuck them in water. They did really well after I potted them on too. At this time of year though you'd probably be better off buying a fresh plant as AP said.

I've been away so havent had chance to do anything one way or another - however I got home and they have now rooted, so will have a go at potting them up this weekend and see how they do. Most likely will end up buying a plant too - I just dont find that the plants last very long at all!
