  • Anyone know if I can grow from this?

My neighbour said that a load of shoots were coming out of the centre of their palm plant, so they hacked them out at the weekend as it was going a bit mad, getting out of hand.

I'm not sure what type of palm it is as I can't see much of it because their garage is in the way.

From what I can see it looks to be about 6ft tall now with long yellow blade like leaves.

I got him to retrieve a bit of what he had cut off from the recycling bin and here it is below.

Could I grow a new plant from this and if so do I need to dry this out first?

I am no expert on palms of any sort but that looks like a flower head to me.
    Happy Gardening,

I'd say no, I don't think you'll have any luck growing anything from this as it is just a bud.

When the seeds are ripe they look a bit like a branch covered in peppercorns, (depending on the variety of course, but most palms hardy in the UK have small seeds.)
If the leaves are blade-like it could be either a yucca, or a cordyline australis. Yucca is easy to propagate from cuttings, and cordyline from seeds, but the cordys take a while to grow big.

Thanks very much, I think it may well be going in the bin then.
