  • Anyone grow any plants purely for medicinal properties on their patch?

    Evening all,

I was just wondering if anyone grow any plants purely for medicinal properties on their patch as I came across some companion plants whilst reading up on the subject which are said to help with colds and Man Flu (which I am currently on my deathbed with!) and was interested to know if anyone on here grows such plants for medicinal purposes & if so what do you grow and do you recommend any good books on this subject?

    Many thanks,

    Samuel

I would advise you take great care & at least read as much as you possibly can on the subject prior to consuming any part of any plant grown purely for medicinal purposes,as not all the effects & reactions are obvious, hence why we do not offer any form of medical advice on the forum
Your local library will have a reference section that should hold a reasonable number of books on the subject

Further to the above after a quick googl@,I will add a cautionary quote ....

Beyond adverse effects from the herb itself, "adulteration, inappropriate formulation, or lack of understanding of plant and drug interactions have led to adverse reactions that are sometimes life threatening or lethal."
taken from ... List of herbs with known adverse effects - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I grow many purely medicinal herbs, but as others have said this is one area where a little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing. There are many good books and there is a wealth on knowledge available online, especially about adverse reactions and interactions between herbs, drugs and misc substances.
        Do your research thoroughly.
For Man Flu, half a bottle of brandy - it doesn't cure it but you don't care anymore.
