Hey everyone, sorry to be another newb asking for help with tomatoes but can anyone help with these. They are gartenperle and have just moved out to the blowaway this week and while the moneymaker and san marazno are fine, these have gotten sick, the stem at soil level has just shrivelled and the leaves gone yellow, any suggestions?

The link comes up as invalid for me. However it sounds like foot rot to me. If the area infected is small you may get away with mulching around the stem otherwise its burn it time.
When you planted up did you use the same compost for all plants?

From what I can see the leaves could just be scorch/scald caused by the very strong sun of recent.
However the pots they are in look very small for the size of plant I would repot soonest into a large pot burying as much of the main stem as possible.
Also am I right they are stood in water? If the plant is kept constantly wet this can cause stem rot and give the symptoms you are describing.

I'm no expert by any means but was thinking the same as Potty...the pots look way too small for the size of the plants and I keep all my greenhouse pots free-draining, rather than sat in drip trays.

Yes they are in 3" pots still and I planned to re pot next weekend but maybe will try and do some tomorrow. I had just given them some water when the photos were taken. Am happy its only scorch on the leaves.Comment

Pop them into Morrisons' flower buckets if you can get your hands on any and if they must be in trays - put some gravel in the bottom so the pots are not sat in water.Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Just out of interest I followed this technique as you recommended with one of my very sad looking Tomatoes a few weeks ago. Planted it out 10 days ago in my outside bed reserved for "the stragglers" and its now a fine looking plant - positively thriving! Cheers ColinOriginally posted by Potstubsdustbins View Post

Those pots are way too small. Pot them into bigger pots - really deep - so deep that only the top 2 or 3 leaves and the stalk they are attached to are above the soil and take all the other leaves off. The plant will reroot from the stem and hopefully liven itself up again.
