  • After Care.....

I was just sitting there a-wondering, staring at my basil seedlings growing merrily above the kitchen sink, am i caring for them properly?
They seem to be doing ok, establishing themselves and all but one of them looking very healthy, but what kind of watering regime should i be following - the seed packet kind of left me at the sowing stage.

Also, Potatoes, shoots coming up. Am I watering every day a wee bit as I think Tattiman suggested, and a bit of tattie feed once a week?
If it rains, but doesn't really moisten them in their rubble sacks, am i adding a bit more water?

So Basil and Potatoes at the moment - i'm sure more questions will come as I sit staring into nothingness!

I've only watered my container spuds once so far - in this dull, damp weather there's not much evaporation - and not fed them beyond the sprinkle of seaweed meal when they were planted, and the shoots are rocketing up! My usual method is to stick my finger in the compost, and if it feels cool and damp 2cm below the surface, I don't water. I'll give them a good soak when they flower, though, to increase the crop (tip from Bob Flowerdew).
