What a total con! On the sample page on the website it shows a section of the calendar with notes on what to plant eg. Mon 29 Flower period - sow sweet peas, graft roses, harvest lavender - root period ends midnight I assumed that the calendar then would be full of these planting reminders and tips - nothing of the sort. It's simply a colour coded calendar to indicate what phase of the moon is occurring when. I am really disappointed with it - it's not even as though you can write your own notes on it, the spacing is tiny. So it cost me £9.95 for a single A2 sheet calendar with info I could download for free from many other sites re: lunar planting. Don't bother if you were thinking of buying it. Stick to the books others have recommended. SuzieP |

I'm going to plant spuds on the next full moon (31st March) and some 2 weeks later and see if there is a difference in productivity/growth/health etc. Are you planting then. Maybe a few of us could coordinate our own trial? BTW you can always get the latest phase of the moon on my blog (see below) and you can get the HTTP code to have it on your own. Let me know if you need advice.

| According to my French moon gardening diary the days for planting tatties are from the 1st to the 4th April. All root days and the moon is in Virgo. At least that is when I will be planting them.

| 1st of April it is then. A good day for me to plant my first crop on a new site - April Fool's Day.

| Maybe a silly question but if I dont ask I wont get to know - I have began to plant by the moon, my question is does this appy to seeds set indoors or only when they are planted out?

| Excellent News Thank You LJ. This means I can carry on sowing seed, while watching the snow fall outside and then be all ready to plant up once soil is warm again etc. I'd better get busy.

| I agree it applies to the ground, but choose to interpret it differently, and set my indoor seeds in trays according to the moon too. I justify it by thinking that once the seed leaves the packet, snuggles down and gets water, the pull starts. Don't know if I'm right, but the leeks I set last leaf day all germinated within about 48 hours! (However, the parsnips I started in watered paper on a root day haven't done squat yet!) Maybe i should have put them in some compost

| The moon is full at exactly 6pm today - ideal time to plant/sow.

| Hi all, I've just joined the forum and noticed this thread on lunar planting / moon gardening. I'm in the process of signing up for an allotment and have every intention of gardening by the moon's phases. I noticed there hasn't been a post on here since April and was wondering how you were all getting on - have you had much success based on a comparison before you started lunar planting?

| Hi Jobi I hadn't read a moon post for ages, but have carried on regardless. I find if i sow by the moon or not, seedlings show on their moon day. The seedlings that i planted by the moon earlier in the year are significantly better than non-moon crops, however all crops are rubbish by comparison to last year's bumper harvest! This year i ended up planting anything out on days when it wasn't raining, regardless of which moon day it was in the pure hope of progress, but it hasn't worked. I have also signed up for a lottie, and next year i am going to have moon beds and non-moon beds, just to really see the difference. i am going to choose 2 of each type of crop [roots, fruits, leaf and flower], with enough seeds planted to really see what the difference is. i can then document and weigh just the stuff from those beds and see what happens. Incidentally, it is a coincidence that nobody seems to have posted on this since the weather went weird - first in April we had a drought and then the monsoons? |
