| I think that if the weather is dry, the weeds will dry out and not re-root but if the root is left in the soil it will sprout again. If it is wet though the weed may take hold and grow back.

| Rightly or wrongly I compost everthing! Annual weeds, biennial weeds and perennial weeds, roots and all. As long as I have a good mix of different vegetation the compost heap looks after itself and I don't create a weed problem when using the compost as a mulch! ![]() Hoeing in the sunshine is more pleasurable for me and less pleasurable for the weeds! ![]()

| Hello Newbie. Work the hoe back and forth with the blade just under the surface of the soil so that you chop off the heads off of the weeds or kick their feet out from underneath them which ever way you look at it. As has been said before, if the weather is dry and warm just leave them where they lie. If the soil is wet some will re-root. The idea is to sever the weed from its roots, if the hoe is to deep you merely bring the weed and its roots to the surface where in can continue growing if the ground is wet. Hope this makes sense. At the end of the day anything that checks their growth has got to be a good thing.
