    How to seal a greenhouse base

    I have a 6x8 old greenhouse.
    It's mounted on a base of bricks which in turn are mounted on a concrete plinth.
    Over the years the base floods when it rains heavily.
    I think it comes in from outside.
    Any idea how to seal the base.

    There's a silicone that is used with lead flashing that might work.

      Yes, I had to silicone the greenhouse frame to the wood base battens, that didn't stop it seeping through!
      Then I siliconed the battens to the concrete base - It was a very untidy job - but that worked

        If the concrete is sound, and the bottom of the greenhouse is above the ground level, the water must be soaking in through the subsoil. 6 x 8 isn't very big, so perhaps clear out house. Layer of sand, then put down a layer of DPM on the floor and up the walls (Thick plastic sheet). Put down layer of sand and your paving slabs in the greenhouse and secure plastic to walls.

        I'm assuming it is just a little water.

        Make sure plastic is treated for light, of the walls will just disintegrate after a couple of years.

          If you haven't already, you could try collecting the water off the roof into a water-butt. Might solve the problem.

            I do collect roof water.
            I think I will try silicone sealant along the inside base along the bricks it's mounted on.

              Maybe slosh a bit of PVA around as a sealant too but the DPC course is the way to go if you want to eliminate the problem.

                OK
                1) It stopped raining long enough for the GH floor to dry out.
                2) I had a bit of spare time
                3) I had a bag of fence post cement but not had time to put the post in.

                So I mixed some up in a bucket and troweled a fillet along the inside of the row of bricks forming the base.

                It's not rained yet so not sure of success or failure.
                Should be some rain soon !

                  might be necessary to lever up the bottom of the greenhouse, then chock it so that you can get at the bricks supporting it. Once you get the weight off, it would be easy enough to lay the bricks in fresh mortar with a bit of water repellent mixed in.

                  Obviously wait to see if the fix you've already done works first

                    OK thanks, waiting on some rain now.
                    Currently it's snowing !
                    Most impressed with this fence post cement, it's quick drying 5 to 10 minutes.

                    Hmm, some combination of fence post cement and Wife comes to mind!
