  • Winter salad in cold greenhouse

Monty Don was planting winter salad in the last episode of GW in his greenhouse. I have a small lean to greenhouse BUT in winter my walled garden hardly gets any sun as it's so low

Can anyone recommend a salad that will grow under glass all winter that doesn't need direct sunlight, just daylight to grow ? I will replenish the soil that the toms have been in with fresh compost. I do have some tree kale in pots already that some very kind person has given me cuttings. Also some nero kale smaller plants in pots I pick for salad, some chard and Lidl "living salad" that I have kept going for months in my raised bed. Would they be better in the greenhouse or left outside ? In fact it seems like some kind of Pak Choi type plant.

Monty's greenhouse gets light from all sides, I think a lean to in a dark garden would struggle to grow anything tbh. You could try corn salad/lamb's lettuce/mache which seems very undemanding.

You do have to sow a lot of it though because each plant only makes a small rosette of leaves which you pick to eat. They don't re-sprout after picking.

The edible weed "land cress" seems to grow well all over the garden and low ground all year round. Perhaps pick the small leaves from chard/kale etc.
