Most likely the government, once we formally have left the EU, will decree that you will need a replacement and will have to pay for it even if you've only had your new one for a month or two... call me a cynic...

I don't think anyone knows mothhawk. I'm a Brit living in another EU country so the whole situation is very concerning. And what will happen to the border in Ireland, where I lived for many years, is very worrying. And us seedaholics would like to know how it will affect the sale or exchange of seeds between the UK and EU. I think we'll all just have to wait and see. And we'd better not venture into the politics of it here because the mods won't like it.

I didn't have to change my Blue passport when we joined the EU. If the roles are reversed I would have thought that it would be the EU objecting to UK citizens using EU passports when they're no longer members.
I'm not worried - my passport's out of date and there's no point renewing it until I need one.

I'm hoping they will have a ten year 'phase in' if they change the design, so the passport office don't get overwhelmed ;-)

Agreed! I'm guessing it will become difficult again. It's why I've been looking at French sources of seeds. You don't get the same variety here in Spain as you do in the UK and France. I'll be very sorry not to be able to bring in seed potatoes from the UK.

I suspect theat the UK would like to just say continue using the one you have and swap them out over the following 10 years.

However as it says European Union at the top the EU may say that when the UK leaves then the passports are innacurate and so invalid, also the US and others have fairly strict rules and so they also may argue they are inaccurate and so invalid.

It would be one way for the EU to point you that leaving is not just the "big" things". And there will be others. Longer delays at airports, going and departing. And it will be kind of compulsary to check UK people, cars etc for a couple of years to make the point.

Extreme case they could even require people to get off the Eurostar at Calais or the first stop, go through passport control and entry then get the next train.

If we want to enter the EU without checks then the EU will require the same the other way for their people.

I know, it was wishful thinking on my part :-)
I've been a member of the EU since I was born, so have always had a burgundy passport.
I'll have to make sure I give it another couple of trips over the next year or so, to make the most before it ceases to be valid!

I suspect they won't be changed at all - its still a british passport, the access to the EU will just change (and we'll have to remember to go down a separate line at the airport

)

They might phase them in gradually as they have done with the chip passports
