  • Pruning fruit trees

Hi everyone. What are your top tips for successfully pruning fruit trees?

  • #2
    Sharp tools.
Milton wipes or bucket of water with ***** for cleaning tools between cuts. (depends on how much cut)
First thing in the day before sap is in full flow (may be myth but it is what I do)
Dry day with no rain forecast.
    Dispose of cut material asap.

Cut stone fruit Aug/Sept after fruit has been harvested (to avoid silver leaf disease).
Apples/ pears in winter/ spring whilst dormant.
    Remove dead, diseased, damaged first.
Remove no more than a third in one go to avoid shocking the tree.
Sprinkle with blood, fish, bone after pruning to give a bit of a boost.
Mulch and weed if needs be to further boost tree. (If the tree is very vigorous then competition is fine)

May be wrong but that is my routine.
