  • Why my asian pear doesn't want to grow?

    Hi there from Italy!
This spring I planted and grafted different cultivars of Asian pear.
All my plants and grafts are growing well except a shinseiki.
This one grew up for a month and stopped.
Other Asian pear did the same but started to grow again 2 weeks ago.
This one has a sort of sack under the apical bud.
I read it is an atomical structure typical of pomacee.
The trunk seems to be covered by a white dust.
According to you is this normal?
    What can I do?

I'm no expert on these, but looks pretty healthy to me - ground looks dry though - obviously you have been watering, but I'd give it a soaking a week, while you have hot weather - big trees can generally fend for themselves, but youngsters need moisture around the roots in hot weather.

Hopefully some one who knows a bit more will be along to comment.

Thank you for your reply nickdub!
I water twice a week for 30' with a dripping system.
The "problem" is that I water also the other asian pear at the same way and they are growing crazy!

no worries - its possible that this tree has come down with something or alternatively this particular patch of ground is different in some non-obvious way - I can't see any sensible alternative to just waiting to see how things pan put in the longer run - the foliage looks healthy to me, which is usually a good sign.

If you're still concerned in the winter you could try putting a fork under it and lifting the root ball up to see if there is an explanation below the soil - I wouldn't normally advocate this, as you're more likely to harm the patient, than help it.
