  • Anyone know where I can get a cheap basic pc monitor

I know it seems a simple request, but it would appear that society is telling consumers what they want again (bloody GRRRRRR!)

MiLs screen has gone up the swanny and she has done the rounds with no success and the odd snotty member of staff. All I am after is a 17-19'' computer monitor and thought it would be £40-£60, have found 1 but out of stock with no customer service help, everything else is 21"+ at £85+ and no I am not going to encourage her to become a gamer to get her monies worth #

    Any ideas would be great

The British Heart Foundation often get them in - just make sure that you get one with the right type of connection.

All good advice from other people, but also need to consider operating system of what I assume is a desktop computer?

If you're on Windows 8 or 10, my experience is that older lower resolution monitors like you might get from freecycle just won't be compatible. If you're on XP/Vista/7, you might be more lucky.

I had a perfectly good basic flatscreen monitor that worked fine with XP, but just couldn't get to work properly or reliably when I went to Windows 8/10. After lots of time with IT support, and endless attempts to follow their advice with 'fixes', I eventually diagnosed the problem myself and asked the IT support if the old monitor being incompatible might be the problem. There was a big pause while they realised what they'd missed, then acknowledged that was the answer.

I then found myself in a similar situation as you, and reluctantly had to go and spend £80 I didn't want to spend. Got a nice ACER monitor in stock at the local Argos in the end.

Thank you all. Just realised I've been a pillock. I still have Hubbys old one kicking about (something that has actually come in handy), sure it was his tower that was cream crackered. Now to work out how and when I am getting it to MiL.

                  Thank you all again

If we could think of a cheap way to get it to you, I have one which works perfectly well but I no longer have a PC.

When mine died I went looking and the "best" option I found was one of the "Cash Converter" places, usually a Yellow colour on the outside. Just in case I have the name wrong and there is sort of every chance I have.

Picked up a nice LG flat screen for either £9 or £12.
