  • Composting grass clippings after feed

I have seen a lot of posts regarding weed and feed but none about just feed. I bought grass feed called horticare autumn lawn feed in poundland and applied to my struggling lawn. It's a gritty powder and has no info regarding pets, children or composting. It is purely feed and no herbicide. This be ok to throw into compost bin or should I wait a few cuts?

    Thanks

If it was harmful at all it would have to have warnings on it to save them from being sued if something happened/health & safety etc it's probably similar in ingredients to other autumn lawn feeds a certain amount of nitrogen, phosphate, potassium & magnesium. I can't find details of it anywhere online, usually you can look into products but I can't find it? You could phone the supplier if you want to know exact details? I'd use it if it was me

Yup I couldn't find anything online and only supplier was on eBay. It's made by 151. Had another look and it gives a warning but nothing about once applied. I'll try and give them a ring 😊

      Thanks

If it just contains fertilizer then its fine. If its contained any herbicides be careful as potatoes and toms are very susceptible to carry overs in compost

Unless you have issues with synthetic N P K and trace elements vs. organic N P K and trace elements then use it. (IMHO, N P K are N P K either way so I have no problems using synthetic fertilizers that are just fertilizers. I also regularly use H and O to water my vegetables. I don't care if they are organic or not. They work. )

You want to be careful you don't get any Dihydrogen monoxide in that - that stuff can dissolve mountains.

Check online for the Safety Data Sheet for the product name, or contact the company online and the SDS should be available for people doing risk assessments and coshh reports.

I heard about someone getting that substance into some live electrical wiring. Not pretty!
