we have just had a break in Italy and while there we bought some veg seeds, they were 1 euro each and they had three and a half times the amount of seeds on average, compared to what we get here, but I sowed toms, basil, melons and peppers two sundays ago and yesterday had to spend time potting them on, the home bought stuff I sowed as a comparison has hardly shown their faces yet, and they were more than double the price, so this is the second time I have tried this, why are we sold overpriced naff rubbish that just does not compare on price or quality?. I know where I will be stocking up my seed wants from in future, failing that it will be the likes of aldi that I will be looking at so I wont be paying caviar prices for cod roe..

Not that I have bought cod roe for years but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same price as caviar. Cod was on the decline and rising in price 20 years ago hence more white fish appearing on the market like hake and Pollock

Anyhoo, I know exactly what you mean about seeds. Last time I was in Barcelona (long time ago now) I bought lots of seeds and they were great. But even stuff online from elsewhere just seems to perform so much better. My popcorn from Baker Creek have all emerged and doing well. My chillis from semillas La Palma germinated well just devils tongue that was a bit of a pain, but even the superhots were up quickly. Franchi seeds are good, germination isn't always great but you have masses of seed to make up for it.
