  • water chestnut plant for pond

    hi folks,
I called into a local shop for water daphnia for my pond, and saw some water chestnut floating pond plants, which I bought. However I forgot to ask if they are native. Will they be ok in my garden pond? I have newts, frogs and tadpoles thriving in the pond.
    Thanks
    Kath

There's 2 types of water chestnut - Eleocharis dulcis (aka Chinese Water Chestnut) and Trapa natans (aka Water Caltrop). I think that if it's floating it'll be the Caltrop variety. I was looking for the Chinese Water Chestnut last year and couldn't find it anywhere, although lots of places sold the caltrop.
