  • Calendula - never seen this before!

These calendula were sown last year in a tub of mixed flower seeds.
Deadheading them today and noticed that there are new buds growing from the old flower head.

Previously, I've seen flower buds some distance below the top flower but never alongside it. Can't deadhead it now as it will take all the flower buds with it.

Is that 4 flowers coming off the old one?! If so that is impressive!

How weird! I had loads of these last year and they never did that - maybe this is an alien species

Didn't you have something similar going on last year with your strawberries?

What compost are you using? Does it glow in the dark?

Top marks JJ for finding that thread. Wonder what the outcome was?
I'm not going to dead head mine - it would be too awkward and I'd damage the buds. It has to do its own thing so I can see what happens or I'd be forever wondering
