    DIY Autonomous Lean-to Polytunnel

    Finally got around to completing this project... cost about £30 Lean-to Polytunnel

    Roof batons from fellow roofer plot owner. Heras panel with side cut off and used to create the arched roof.

    Front panel rain run off waters tomato / aubergine bed

    top panel rear arch run off waters under path where fresh manure is stored

    Nice and toasty in here oh and its a rain shelter

    Notice "suspended" plant tray, try and climb up there "Mr Snail" ?

        I thought "autonomous" meant it was independent or something like that so I can't understand how it can be a lean-to and freestanding

            It is leaning slightly,maybe it's an autonomous leaner?

              I thought with it being "autonomous" it self regulated the watering, heating and ventilation.

              And possibly moved around (plants and all) to the sunniest part on the garden.

              That's it, no more anime for me - it's giving me silly ideas.

                      Bless ya lil' ole cotton socks for tryin Unfortunately slugs and snails will climb plastic. Also a lot of peeps have been there, done that and quite a few have done better(sorry!). Seriously pinch someone elses idea then improve it if you can. People give advice so you can learn from their mistakes or save time or both. It really is worth mooching around on here

                          Seems like a decent (admittedly -ish) outcome for £30 - its a fairly large area that is going to give some climate protection and maybe a few degrees of additional heat. My plot GH is slapped together rubbish but almost matches the benefits of the glass GH I have at home (that was put in by proper people before I moved in )
                          Slugs can limb glass too...
                          I'd love to have the money and time to do everything perfectly but this to me looks like a pretty good attempt to boost growing options on a budget. Looks like its leaning too against a wire fence or similar that has some plastic rigged up against it.

                            For £30 it might be a decent growing area but it looks as if it's structural integrity relies on the back wall. From what we can see of the fence it is a wire mesh fence with wooden uprights.

                            The mesh is probably stabled onto the uprights and possibly also fixed to a top wire (although not definitely) which is also probably stapled to the posts

                            The thing about fence staples is that they were made to fix fences rather than lean to greenhouses so the question about what it's leaning against is valid.

                            There is bracing along the front but nothing along the sides and in a strong wind the whole thing will be subjected to quite a bit of force that the fence (being mostly holes and able to let the wind through) wouldn't.
