  • Wanted: pink peony poppy seed

I don't know if it is allowed to ask this here, but I am looking for some pink peony poppy seed that seems to be really hard to track down anywhere in the UK. I have found some in the US but the shipping charge is high (£11.00) and I could get hit with customs, too.

It's a particular shade I am looking for, as in this link: Pink Carnation Rose Poppy Papaver paeoniflorum - 100 Seeds

Does anyone know where I can obtain some seeds? Thanks.

Hi Briony, I've edited your post as you need to have made 50 posts before you can ask for seeds.

I know you offered to pay for them if anyone had some

    Is this it? https://www.amazon.com/Package-paeon...HEKW7KFFG3E67W

If you have no joy I can send you seed off mine that are shortly due to flower. They are likely to me a mix of single, doubles and semi double and there may me some lilac involved. They are wild ones/weeds that I allow a few to grow on each year. Can post pics once they are out if that helps.

They used to be available from all the seed merchants but seem to have fallen out of favour. It's a bit late to sow for this year anyway; they'll be in flower in another few weeks. The best thing is to look round all your local gardens for some - I'm sure you'll find some - and ask the owner if you can take a seed head once they ripen.

It's not too late to sow poppies! May is fine for sowing annuals.

Thanks everyone for the offers and sorry about breaking the rules. The pink in the Amazon link is very pretty, and I have ordered some from Ebay just like that, but it's a medium pink that I am looking for, thanks again though.

I bought a mixed pack from a very large garden centre so I can sow them somewhere inconspicuous and then harvest the pink ones if there are any (there are on the pack).

They only last until a rain shower which might be one reason for becoming unpopular, but I think they are great in terms of a stunning effect in relation to money spent and effort put in!

Briony I'm interested in what you are planning! Is it a very specific garden design or are you growing for a specific purpose?

It's nothing so fance as a garden design, it's just that I have a lot of things in the front garden that finish very early and it looks very bare from June onwards. The poppies would help that, and I think pink would look best as there is lots of red and pruple already.

You were so specific in your first post that I assumed it had some special meaning for you That's half hour of my life gone that I'll never recover!

There's also one called Flemish Antique which is variegated in shades of pink and could look very nice there. Several different companies stock it. White ones would also look good with that colour combo.

I went to the Malvern Show today, and Avon Bulbs had some seeds on sale.

One was a double pink poppy, which looks like the one in your picture.
