  • Preparing the soil

As you may or may not know by now I will be growing mostly herbs and veg in containers but some I will try in soil

My question is should I prepare the soil and compost in pots a week in advance or as I plant or Sow?

p.s I will be going on Wednesday to the garden centre for the last time for a while so please suggest anything I may have forgotten

    Thank you

Its probably not something to worry about too much - if you can do it in advance then all the better but no great reason to worry about it. I do both - for the most part if you're providing decent growing material then the plants will grow - its just perhaps nicer for you if you can do it in advance so everything is ticked off beofrehand.

When I use a pelleted fertiliser such as grow more I like to mix it in the compost a week or so in advance, then give it a good watering, this starts to break the pellets down making the fertiliser available to the plants.

As already said its not absolutely essential but a personal preference.
