  • Charlottes getting squished by fleece... but frost!

So, my charlottes are coming on strong now, but they're still under fleece, which has to be weighed down against the wind. Are they going to be damaged by being restricted under the fleece? I can't take it off yet because we've still got potential frosts for at least another week.

    Any tips, please?

    Thanks guys.

Thanks Damian. I've earthed up twice, and between the size of the ridges and the size of the haulms I don't think I'm going to manage it again. Glad to know they should be okay under the fleece for now.

I am going to try some old fashioned double cropping between my spud ridges and put some lettuces or something in there, i spaced out a fraction wider anyway and hate to see wasted space, I will experiment on one row and if there no difference to yield and size I will fill those dips every year going forwards lol, have to at least give it a whirl and try

Put some canes in between the plants and drape the fleece over the canes. Put some cane toppers on if you don't want the canes to puncture the fleece.

Thanks, Bigmal, that worked a treat. They're much happier now.
