  • Sleepy apple?

I ordered a Tydermans late orange apple from a nursery in Ireland and I planted it out in late January early February. I live in the northeast of England and I have clay soil in a southeast facing garden. The problem is my apple tree has not broken bud yet, I did a scrape test and it's nice and green under the bark, should I just leave it alone or would I be able to transplant it?

If it's still green leave it be, are the buds swelling at all yet? I have a winston here being a be dopey this year, I just put it down to the funny weather.

Hi, thankyou for replying, no, the buds have no signs of swelling yet. I was abit worried that the soil maybe too heavy and cold. The soil is slightly acid, cold clay wich is quite damp due to being on the edge of woodland so the tree only gets the site only gets the sun for 2hrs in the morn and 4hrs late afternoon. I have a cellini apple next to it wich is in full blossom

Leave it alone this year, but consider moving it to more suitable, sunnier position next winter. (you could start preparing the new ground now)
Feed the soil, not the plants.

Would it be ok if it does not grow any leaves this year? I think it's a 2yr old tree and I thought maybe it's just growing roots due to being new but I was not sure if it will still be alive when the autumn comes so I can move it?

If its showing green under the bark, its alive. If its alive it will grow leaves, just give it time and leave it alone.
Move it in the Winter when it is dormant(Feb/March/early April--not the Autumn.
