    Pieris cuttings

    Hi all,

    I have discovered a Pieris in my garden and I have fallen in love!

    I am contemplating using them to form a hedge of sorts as I think they'd look amazing in one long row.

    Has anyone tried to take cuttings? I've done a bit of research and I'm planning on sticking a load in the electric propogator once its free to see what happens.

    My question is more relating to growth - how long would it take a cutting to form anything resembling a shrub?

    vixylix, All I could find about Pieris is that it needs ericaceous soil and can be propagated by stem layering or air layering. Which Pieris do you have? Presumably your garden soil must be neutral or acidic otherwise the plant wouldn't have survived.

      Yes the soil is definitely acidic, they are growing in gardens all around us.

      I have no idea what I have as it is inherited, but the branches are nowhere near long enough for stem or air layering (its not been cared for very well by its previous owners) so I think cuttings are the only way forward

        If you have seen flowers on it in the past that should help with identification.
