    I have some bush roses,

How can I take cuttings and multiply them?

My dad's method for rose cuttings was:

      1. Chop off a 2-foot or so length of stem
      2. Strip off lower leaves
      3. Stick a spade in the ground and wiggle it slightly to make a slit
      4. Shove the cutting into the slit
      5. Firm down with your boot. Water if soil is dry.
      6. Walk away and forget about it. A few months later, you might get a pleasant surprise.

I did try the hardwood cuttings in autumn but they all rotted

Done it several times as above and got many pleasant surprises!
