  • Strawberry bed rejuvenation

I planted a strawberry bed 4 years ago and have allowed it to get really overcrowded and is in a right mess - I'm in the process of improving the soil and replanting the younger offsets but wondered if other grapes have a more organised, annual method of maintaining their beds.

    I had the same problem.
I have now vowed to remove all runners as and when they appear.
Also I will cut off all foliage before the cold weather starts.

Feed the soil, not the plants.

I take a row out each year and replace them with runners I've grown and potted on.
      Location....East Midlands.

If they are 4 years old, I'd pull them up & replace with runners.

That's what I vowed 4 years ago - best laid plans eh?

This sounds really sensible Bren - thanks for the idea.

Most of the offsets are only a year or two old(ish) but I think I will invest in some fresh ones.
