Main supply is back on but now it would usually be necessary to get in every property and 'purge' the system, depends if any air got in the pipework.

Having read this, I've been thinking about how I'd cope without gas. Never really thought about it before
Hope the Withernsea people are warm and toasty again soon.

Could you use your log burner for heating water and food, if not get yourself a small multi fuel stove, and some fuel to stick in some corner for a back-up, I am fortunate that I can cook on my wood burner that I have in the greenhouse and yes I have done so in the past
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

When things bite us on the bum,it's funny how our survival mode kicks in,also how peeps all pull together to help each other,i read a clip form of that link, about a lady of 75,had no servicegas or leci? for several months,no one can help, she in a private property and has no money to pay the company,so she stays cut off,i think that is disgusting in this day and age, does make you think eh,ti's not all honey owning your own.
VC how about your freezer with no leci,ok am gone.

Guess I am lucky I have a 5Kw generator in the tool store along with electric space heaters and plenty of fuel.

We too have a petrol generator which is mainly for using certain power tools off site, but would keep the freezers and central heating going for a few days if we had major problems.
We though we'd give it a dry run so to speak a few months back...only to find my car is fitted with an anti-syphon mesh so syphoning off petrol is impossible.
Other 2cars are diesel ...so no use....
Glad we found out before confronted with an emergency ....

Best wishes to anyone left without elec/heating/cooking facilities after storms....it's a particularly hard time...especially for the elderly/disabled...

We have an open fire, paraffin heater, torches and candles when our leccy goes off which it occasionally does.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!
