  • Seeds for Christmas

Anyone give seeds for Christmas ?

I normally don't visit relatives apart from a Christmas visit.

Last year as well as the normal presents I wrapped up a packet of runner bean seeds for each relative.
This year I will see if they grew any.

I collected a lot of French Bean Cobra seeds this year.
I will parcel up some for each relative.

Happy Christmas and it's time to start thinking about next years activities !

    I think that's a lovely idea!
Popping a couple of packets of flower or veg seeds in with a child's pressie is tempting them , at a young age, to interact with the garden.
English marigold and nasturtiums are the easiest to collect and most rewarding for me....and I'm a big kid...and I've been good all year!

And Xmas greeting to you Jimmy!

Lovely idea Jimmy - I never have but now wish I had. We are in the 'we don't do presents' group these days.

Well so are we. However the base of a Christmas Tree needs parcels. So I go to the pound shop and every one in the family gets a box of Maltesers, or cheap selection box etc. From Father Christmas.
At least they have one present to open. Plus there are usually a few spare so I get them!
Nowt better than pigging on Choccy on Christmas day.

          Good idea Jimmy! Merry Christmas.

A Christmas tree needs parcels you say...do what I do and wrap empty boxes up really nicely and put them under the tree. The first time I did it the family thought they were on to a good thing...

When the kids were young our tree was behind the living room door. So we had a house brick as a door stop. In keeping with the season it was wrapped in Christmas paper.
But when the kids were fishing out their presents one would often get the brick ! Most disappointing.

I put packets in some of my friends' Christmas cards, I think seeds as presents is a fab idea, but then I would...

I do! Several of my friends get seeds, I usually do hand drawings on the packets and package them up so that they look pretty. I give them as birthday treats too, often the ladies love flower seeds even if they don't do much gardening.

Afraid my dad and I are really the only ones who grow things from seed for our allotments.
I wouldn't send him any for Christmas as I buy the seeds in the sales and he likes to have a rummage and dibs on seeds from my seed tin.

None of my friends grow anything so its just me. Having said that, they dont have a problem eating anything I grow.

I don't normally give seeds but I was in Aldi yesterday and there was a seed rack behind the door with lots of herb and veg seeds - all well in date - and all 19p. A few will find their way into relatives cards particularly the herbs as most of my relatives aren't gardeners but do like to cook and everybody has room for a few pots of herbs,

I don't give seeds because they would just be wasted by all the heathens I'm related to and friends with.
Don't know how many hints I've dropped that seeds would be a prefect gift for me, do I get any.......NO.

So I'm very much with our young VC on this one. Buy seeds for me, me, me, me........ me.
