  • Structure for raspberries/grapes

Feeling quite proud of this - several months in the planning and execution and the customary 5 pints of sweat

    Method of construction
    • Clear site, dig over and then level off
    • Submerge formers to sit vertical poles in (50cm sections of 110mm soil pipe)
    • Locate (50mm) poles, set in postmix concrete
    • Construct remaining structure (25mm x 50mm batten, 47mm x 50mm regularised timber)

    Still to do:
    • Put in wires
    • er, put some raspberry plants in (plus a couple of grape vines and perhaps a rose)
    • Sit back and admire.

    Learning points
    • Use deeper formers
    • Use wider upright posts

That looks great - would there be enough space underneath to have a seating/picnic area so you can shelter underneath the canopy of grape vines from the sweltering summer sun

Well done - you can be justifiably proud of it.

It wasn't the intention to sit under it but there is 6ft clearance so may well try that later, thanks for the suggestion. Just need to make a couple more benches! And find some sweltering sun

I would have suggested a hammock but I don't think that the uprights would be strong enough. You could get one with a frame.
