  • Watercress

Just got some seeds delivered from Dobies and reading the instructions on the packet prompted this post.
I have successfully grown a bit of watercress for a few years now and thought I'd pass on what I do.
Firstly this is both slow to germinate and also seems to hang around once it has, then gets a gallop on once the weather warms up.
I plant in those collapsible tomato pots with a general compost, maybe 6 seeds in each pot and then stand the pots in an old washingup bowl and fill with water so that the top of the soil is just above the water surface, once the plants are growing I put them outside and the rain tops the bowl up so that the plants are submerged, then cut and come again. I tried keeping them over winter, but the second year didn't produce as much as new seed, so I now treat as an annual.
