hi all ,im looking to do a hydroponic diary on here next year and id like you all to recomend any rare/strange/different looking chilli to try i can only grow 2 chillis in my hydro so if you could list a 2 or 3 types and ill have a look and see what i like the look of ,cheers ,any thoughts welcome cheers

When you say "different" what is it your looking for? Foliage colour, colour of chill pod, size /shape of chilli, heat level...there's 100s of different chillies...I loved the look of the black naga pods, though the royal black plant that I grew this year was stunning.Comment

good questions scarlet ,im going to be growing them in my front room so id like somthing thats eye catching ,nice bright colours with a good yeild 20-50+ chillis on each plant and plants that dont grow overly tall, 3-4 foot is fine but no more ,heat level i dont mind i had some lemon drops this year and the heat in those was about as hot as i like eating them on there own but im not sure what i`ll do with them yet so i`ll worry about that when i have grown them ,i dont mind on the shape standard cayenne shape is fine or the stranger the better really dont mindThe Dude abides.Comment

ooooh trepadeira werner. They are really beautiful chillies going from white through yellow & orange to red. And it makes a lovely arc of a plant, about 3-4ft high.

My recommendation to you would be Fish Pepper (aka Hot Fish).
I've grown it myself several times; got a small plant on the go this year too which will really come into it's own next year fingers crossed.
It should tick all your boxes: it's rare, heirloom, doesn't get too big, relatively easy to grow, the foliage is variegated and makes for a very attractive, standalone ornamental plant. In addition to this though are the chilli fruits themselves which cycle through a number of colour variations on their way to full ripeness, including shades of brown which is still a fairly unusual colour in itself for a chilli pepper. Culinary uses are historically as a spice for seafood (hence it's name), but it should suit a lot of dishes as it is of a similar heat to the aforementioned Lemon Drop chilli.

I've not bought seeds from WofC before, but I agree they do look very reasonably priced.
I used them for the first time this year for a few plug plants as I managed to lose all my seedlings early on. But I've used the site for information in the past, and they're UK based.
No, for seeds I did use almost exclusively chileseeds.co.uk (their range is huge and they stock a lot of lesser known varieties). These days I also buy from Nicky's Nursery, and Simpson's Seeds are pretty good. Though I think generally now there is less reliance on seeds in order to grow unusual varieties, as more suppliers are offering plants, and some quite obscure ones at that. So I'm happy for someone else to take over the time consuming germination stage and I'll get a piece of their handiwork for a few quid down the line

I've got 4 Fish chilli plants on the go and they are really beautiful little chillies. They don't all variegate to the same degree and the white stripes on the chilli only happen on variegated stems - probably obvious to you but it was a surprise to me! I've one plant that is really variegated, with some chillies nearly pure white and the others are a varying mix - one just has a tuft of spotty leaves.
