  • Another compost query.

Can anyone tell me if there's anything that should stop me using leaves only from brassicas...cabbage I think on my compost or next years bean trench. I found a big pile of discarded plants on my allotment communal bonfire complete with roots which I've removed. I can't see any sign of club root but of course I can't be 100% it wasn't there. I really need to make as much compost as possible. I'm cross that people throw this away in the first place as allotmenteers are requested to only put non compostable items on the bonfire such as large branches and stuff that doesn't break down, wooden stuff etc.
Though some folks think that includes plastic too!
Anyway I need if possible, to use it so what do you think??

If in doubt, chop off the roots and compost the rest, really good in a bean trench, I bung in the leaves from the 13 crowns of rhubarb as well, with all the kitchen scraps as well and only cover it when at soil level, or march has arrived and its getting near planting time for the beans, its a real lazy way to add goodness to your patch...

Bash the stalks with a hammer or similar, it will speed up the decomposition.
