  • Red currant & gooseberry

Is now a good time to move red currant and gooseberry bushes?
I'm working on a little project and they need moving fairly soon.

I've just moved 3 blackcurrant bushes - they were in the way. Right or wrong - probably

Ah! Did you take some hardwood cuttings, just in case? They should be ok about now. Make sure you water them well and give them a good mulch afterwards.

Also if you move gooseberries i would suggest you give the roots a good wash to get rid of any nasties in the soil (gooseberry sawfly maggots come to mind) and give them a whole ne home.

      Good luck

Bill's advice is very astute... should be good about now.

Thanks for the replies. they are getting moved within the next couple of days ( that was going to happen anyway ). Gooseberries may get there roots washed, if they are good little gooseberries and come out of the ground without to much of a fight .
The red currants are massive things so they've had a hard pruning ready for moving.

To late. All the cuttings have gone through the shredder . If it was up to me all the fruit would be ripped out, not moved. But the landlord likes them so they have to stay. Which seems a little silly to me as she has no intention of ever living here again.

( I could get another 3 good sized raised beds in if it wasn't for the fruit )
