  • Sunflower seeds

I've just saved some of my sunflower seeds. Are sunflowers promiscuous? I've grown a couple of varieties this year close together. Just curious really, I'm sure whatever comes up next year will be pretty

SP ~ it's a daft question - but how did you save your sunflower seeds...?

Do you just leave the head on the plant until it's dead, or can I take off the flower head and leave it to dry out off the plant ?..........
I ask because I want to cut them back soon as they are nearly finished and I want to tidy up the bed ...

Oh and I don't know if they're promiscuous - I only had the one variety in my garden!

It's my first year successfully growing them, so I'm making it up as I go along. I left the heads to dry on the plant and let the birds ( chaffinchs ) let me know when they were ready because they've been eating them. So I've just saved a few seeds for myself and left the rest for the birds.

Oh ok, so leave them where they are for a bit then....

I have two others planted in little 'teacups' planters ~ they've defo finished now, so I'll keep my eye on them and pick some seeds out for me and leave the rest for my little feathered friends...
