  • Roots, Shoots, Fruits and Leaves!

I'm trying to be organised with seed sowing - in particular repeat sowings for continuity of cropping.
As you'll know by now, I'm not very organised, can't take gardening too seriously and want it to be fun - a little game/challenge
I'd appreciate your views on my latest nutty idea please!!

Operate a 4 week cycle for sowing seeds, based loosely around the main parts that are eaten.

Week 1 = Roots (eg carrots, turnip, radish, potatoes, fish etc)
Week 2 = Shoots + stalks/stems (eg onions leeks, all alliums, all oriental veg, celery, rhubarb)
Week 3 = Fruits (eg tomatoes, squashes, beans & peas)
Week 4 = Leaves (brassicas, incl caulis and broccoli, lettuce, salad leaves)

    Flowers are sown on Friday

Then repeat, every 4 weeks for 13 cycles a year. Obviously, not all items can be sown year round like tomatoes but it might focus my mind (for a week) on what could be sown in that group.

    Good idea ............or crazy?

You really want us to answer.....especially as you hold the pointy stick

Why not....I am sowing lucky dip brassicas next year...had loads of packets with 3 or 4 seeds in so just mixed them together

    Go for it, nothing ventured.......

I've decided to go nuts again next year and just plant what takes my fancy
Just ordered some blue banana squash.

I don't see nuts mentioned anywhere in your plan
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                Hey, this system really works
                I've done my Roots today!

4 buckets of carrots, 2 beetroot, 1 turnip, 1 kohlrabi, 1 Mooli radish and mixed ordinary radish in all the gaps between the pots.
Wonder what else I can do with Roots this week?
Getting excited about Shoots week already

I've done my roots also but may have to do them again, as I can see some Gray yet

And for the second part, control yourself woman you still have three full days to go
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Sounds like moon gardening without involving the moon!

Exactly, Snadge - but it'll be my personal "moooooon" and I don't need to think about waxing as long as I do my roots
