We get them here too buss...only ever heard them a couple of times in the garden....once was with her babbies all sniffly squeaking after her .
Fortunately the hazelnuts weren't falling.
Ours are very shy as they are relentlessly hunted so one small noise and they're off out of sight....
How many kg can they get through buss?....do you sell them commercially?

They actually break off the lower branches of the trees to get the nuts. We do sell some, depends on the harvest. This year is very poor as Spain has been so short of rain fall for nearly 4 years. That's a fair bit of damage then.
Are the almonds sweeter when they are smaller ( lack of water)....(I picked a handful of ripe raspberries yesterday which were only the size of petit pois and they were one heck of a flavour bust)

Flavour depends on moisture content and variety. The Marconas have a better flavour for use in cooking. The Valencia types are smaller with a less pronounced 'almond' flavour. And bigger is better when selling them to the coperatives. When we gave harvested the nuts, and removed the outer husk we bag them up and take them to the coperatives. They then weigh out 100 grams, shell them and weigh the actual nuts and work out the weight difference. Then they check the moisture content of the nuts (kernels ). We are paid according to all this information. 2 years ago we were getting €1.75 per kilo of un - shelled nuts. Now consider what you pay for them in the UK.
