  • Recommendation for mini corn varieties

I've grown Minipop F1 this year, with surprising success (surprising because a lack of water has meant most of my garden was a disaster!). I harvested the first a couple of days ago and I was amazed at just how sweet they are! They are actually far too sweet for me, I found them almost unpalatable.

So, are there any recommendations on not-so-sickly but still mindlessly easy to grow mini varieties?

I've grown Minipop F1 in previous years and really enjoyed them, especially once I'd worked out the right time to pick them, as there's a small optimum window.
Usual issue of how much space they need in relation to the likely return, and whether I get enough sun, but that's true of growing sweet corn generally.

Apart from Minipop F1, the only other mini cob variety I've seen is Snobaby F1:

How would you define that optimum window for picking them?

Hmm, that's a bit tricky, I'd like to see a definitive answer myself

My early picks were probably too small because with all the leaf wrappings around the cob, it makes you think they look bigger than they actually are inside.

Erred too far in the opposite direction for some of the later picks, and found the middle of the mini cobs were starting to get too hard.

Generally, I try and research things in advance, but sweetcorn seems to be one of those things where you need to gain some experience and learn from trial and error how to judge the right picking time.
