  • What makes you stop and watch?

Whenever a Buzzard flies over, I stop whatever I'm doing to watch it, circling higher and higher. Magical. I want to be up there flying alongside it.

Its the same with helicopters - I hear them and have to look for them, then watch them as they disappear.

Butterflies, resting on flowers make me stop and tiptoe towards them, hoping to have a good look at their colours before they fly away.

Hearing a woodpecker, I have to stop and work out which tree its pecking, maybe spot it drumming away.

I know when the Space Station will be visible and stand outside hoping to spot it, marveling that there are people up there. Sometimes I wave to them

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who takes time out to watch these little miracles! If you don't, you'll confirm that I'm nuts

Nope your not that nutty, I to do helicopters and birds.

I am also captivated if I see a spider spinning its web or walk out on an autumn morning to find one covered in dew.

Standing looking up at the sky is for loons and a known ploy of pickpockets.......to get everyone looking up!

Are you a loon or a pickpocket VC!

All of the above (except maybe for the space station that I never see), plus

When walking over a bridge, stop to see if I can see a fish in the stream below

Always stop to admire a big tree

Watch heavy rain falling (usually hiding in the shed with a cuppa)

Snowflakes, pick one out from high up and follow it to the ground

Most flying things, bar house flies make me stop and watch, especially a kestrel if its hovering in the wind and seagulls circling in an updraft.

I live close to Newcastle Airport, if I spent my time watching planes all day I'd have a crick in my neck and a lump on my head through walking into lamp posts!

Zero interest in helicopters or planes although husband is an avid plane spotter - perhaps that is why LOL.

I will always stop and watch animals and wildlife. Just today I marvelled at a slug which was 6ft up my runner bean pole and hidden beneath the jungle of leaves, a tiny frog who was jumping around my squash bed and a spider who thought he was going to weave webs in my lettuce - found him a home in my fatsia japonica instead.

I also love snow. We get snow so rarely that it really is a marvel. Waking up to perfect snow all white and untouched - that is something I will look at for quite some time. I really hope we get some snow next year.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Ha!...it's a national tradition here in rural areas that when any car drives by, everyone stops what they are doing ( even chatting!) to watch the driver pass by.
Absolutely no idea why, but everyone seems to do it!

Marie...I love watching snow fall too...and even rain dripping down the window pane.

Most things in nature cause me to stop and watch/look closely...probably because I have the time to do that these days ( well...most days anyway!)

I like watching water..............waves crashing on the rocks or the ebb and flow of the tide on the shore; water falls, currents in the river, ripples on the pond................

                      and little fish, tadpoles, dragonflies...............

I stop and watch birds feeding all the time

Heavy engineering especially Victorian stuff. Close by we have Papplewick pumping station a fully restored steam water pumping station. I can stand for hours when its in steam and have great admiration for the guys who designed and built it all those years with basically hand tools.

Si many things. The children are really into mini-beasts & I find myself noticing them more - today it was a green shield beetle on my knee, a female earwig in a tray of sweet lwilliam seeds & to their delight a worm popping out of the lawn! Also v partial to clouds, rainbows (cheesy I know!), meteors & the space station.
                            Another happy Nutter...

I too love watching clouds...seeing them change shape as they move across the sky. Always trying to see a face or animal or something in the shape.

Oh and flames....I could stand( or preferably sit!) and stare at them for ages.

I can see our wild cherry tree from the bedroom window and just love watching the leaves fluttering in the breeze and birds hopping about.
