  • potato seeds?

    Hi all,
ive been given loads of pre packed potato seeds like you would buy from garden nurseries,
all different makes ,some earlys some main ,i.e casablanca ,rocket,my question is will these be ok for next year if i keep them in the cool say the garage??
its such a shame to throw them away so im really hoping i dont have too
    thanks for any help/advice

Are they from this years crop? If so they will be fine kept in a cool place for sowing next year. If they are older than that I'm afraid I have no idea whether they will be viable or not? If they are in proper packets it should have a 'sow by' date on them. I've never seen them for sale so would be interested to know where they came from?

Sorry but I seem to be giving more questions than answers!

I think OP means seed potatoes. If so then they will already be sprouted and shrivelling unless they have been kept in a temperature-controlled cold store, so I don't expect they will be any good for next spring.

and there is a sell by date a couple have june 2016?
so im guessing its not worth storing these in a cool dark place really then?
shame as ive got loads lol would have set me up nicely for next year (especially as ive just got an allotment )

Sorry Dru. I thought you meant true potatoe seed (TPS) which are the seeds you get from the fruit of the potato. I've never seen these for sale!
